Orgatec 2018

New Visions of Work

Orgatec is a bi-annual event in Germany and is the hotspot for interiors and design. The central theme this year was culture@work which meant there was a strong focus on all the elements that create a modern working environment.

The Key Trends

The latest trend in office furniture moves towards flexible, versatile, fluid spaces, increasingly designed to foster the wellbeing and creativity of those who work there. These dynamic spaces are characterised by elements that respond to the constant need for change, along with the varied requirements of contemporary and multipurpose spaces: from the modern conference spaces to collaborative spaces.

Orgatec 2018 was all about acoustic privacy solutions - phone booths and acoustic rooms. Most manufacturers now have a solution, however ensuring that the system is flexible and totally demountable is the key to a good design.

Technology also played an important part in all furniture solutions. This included power accessibility in collaborative seating, wireless charging pads and desk preset solutions for workstations, and swipe systems for lockers with utilisation tools.

2018 has been a groundbreaking year for Casala. It marks their 100th anniversary along with the recent acquisition of Palau.

Palau is complimentary to the existing Casala collection, completing the product portfolio with modular soft seating systems, acoustic solutions and a unique mix of new products.

Muuto expanded further into the new world of workspaces – coining the phrase `rescommerical’ as the current look and feel for offices. They introduced their new perspectives on modern workplace across their furniture and lighting range. Through creating designs that are timelessly modern and inherently functional, they strive to infuse workplaces with an inviting and personal atmosphere to inspire its users throughout the day while making them feel at their best.

Our working world is changing. While offices used to resemble dreary cells, spaces for the strict eight hour workday, a new approach is now taking over from the focus on functionality. “We are now seeing a mix of furniture and zones that is relevant now” says Markus Benz, CEO of Walter Knoll.

Walter Knoll released 12 new products to enhance their contract offering.
