Centé Patient Chair

Lightweight, mobile, and exceptionally comfortable, Centé meets the needs of both patients and caregivers.

Its durable, permeable suspension materials provide comfort by helping air circulate around the patient. A unique shift control mechanism helps position the chair at different heights and angles, to increase seated comfort and convenient approach to the chair. The matching footstool nests fully under the flex model and partially under the tilt model when not in use.

For patients, the chair's comfort and advanced ergonomic design have a positive effect on body and mind, fostering a sense of well-being just when they need it most.

Assistance with Movement

Patient handling tasks are the primary cause of musculoskeletal disorders among nurses, 38% of whom suffer occupation-related back pain severe enough to require leave from work.
An elevated forward incline decreases the distance from standing to sitting. When exiting the chair, the same elevated incline shift-control mechanism lifts and positions the seat forward to decrease the reclined seat angle to ease standing.

Support + Comfort

Seat and back suspension surfaces and 10-degree recline provide a comfortable seated posture. Resilient urethane springs provide soft flex while permeable seating materials permit air to circulate around the patient, providing additional comfort.

Centé Flex

As with the Tilt model, when a patient leans back in the Flex chair, feet stay flat on the floor and the front edge of the seat moves with the body so legs remain in a comfortable position.
The Centé Flex also provides the same air circulation benefits as the Tilt Model allowing for a high degree of seated comfort.

Ease of Use

Integral headrest reduces the need for separate pillows and other attachments. A coordinating ottoman is available, allowing the chair to accommodate the maximum number of body heights and types.
A soft and accessible handle provides convenient control to the user or caregiver, and optional rear casters enable easy mobility of chair from room to room when not occupied by a person.

Standard options include the polyester mesh seat in warm grey and a soft polyester knit back available in several colours. Seats and backs may be specified in a wide range of vinyl and polyurethane fabrics from Maharam, a textile manufacturer with a range of fabrics especially suited for healthcare environments.

Easy to Clean

All components of Centé chairs are removable to allow for routine cleaning and maintenance.

Design Story

The design of Centé chairs, created with caregiver safety in mind, was influenced by intense, research-based studies and the high rate of caregiver injury related to patient handling.

Designing with caregiver safety in mind required a deep analysis of the activities surrounding patient handling. From this inquiry, we identified several additional criteria that influenced the chair's design: comfort; the fact that the size of the average patient continues to increase; ease of use; and scale.

To meet these needs, Centé is a streamlined chair with a supportive polyester mesh fabric. It has the ability to support patients up to 159 kg, and controls that are convenient for both the patient and the caregiver.
