PROJECT BRIEF  |

Beca’s new global headquarters, Te Paeroa o te Kawau, marks a bold step forward in workplace innovation and cultural storytelling. Located in Auckland’s Wynyard Quarter and valued at $300 million, the building is a landmark project both in scale and ambition. Designed by Warren and Mahoney in collaboration with mana whenua Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, the space is a celebration of people, place, and purpose—an embodiment of Beca’s legacy and its future.

The design narrative, Te Paeroa o te Kawau, is deeply rooted in the cultural history and environmental context of the site. The architectural response draws on the natural geography of the Waitematā Harbour and the cultural influence of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, shaping a space that feels distinctly Aotearoa. The fit-out supports a hybrid way of working and aims to foster greater collaboration, connection, and wellbeing.

This project sets a new benchmark for environmental and social responsibility in the workplace. Targeting 6 Green Star, 5-star NABERSNZ, and Platinum WELL Certification, the space has been designed to operate at the highest levels of sustainability and health performance. From material selections to energy efficiency and indoor air quality, every detail has been considered to meet Beca’s long-term ESG goals.

Unison played a key role in the fit-out, providing flexible, future-ready furniture solutions that seamlessly support the project's design and performance goals. In close partnership with Warren and Mahoney and the Beca team, we curated a range of workspace furniture that enhances agility, inclusivity, and comfort—ensuring that each space is adaptable to a variety of workstyles.

Our furniture selections were driven by:

  • Sustainability: Using pieces that align with Green Star and WELL criteria
  • Flexibility: Supporting hybrid working and multifunctional use of space
  • Employee Wellbeing: Prioritising ergonomics, acoustic comfort, and visual harmony
  • Timeless Design: Enhancing the architectural language through form, materiality, and colour

This project is a powerful example of how architecture, culture, and workplace strategy can intersect to create meaningful spaces. We are proud to have collaborated with Warren and Mahoney and Beca on a project that reflects the best of Aotearoa design—purposeful, sustainable, and deeply human.
